Your Guide to Auto Fluids & Filters

AMJ Auto Repair • November 1, 2022

A car is a complex machine made up of many different parts, all working together to keep you on the road. Just like any machine, however, cars need regular maintenance and care in order to continue running properly. This includes making sure that all the fluids and filters are clean and fresh. In this blog post, we’ll take a look at some of the most important fluids and filters in your car so that you can be sure to keep everything running smoothly.

Motor Oil

One of the most important fluids in your car is motor oil. Motor oil lubricates the engine, keeping all the moving parts working together smoothly. Over time, however, motor oil breaks down and becomes less effective. That’s why it’s important to change your motor oil regularly according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. You can usually find this information in your car’s owner’s manual. Another important factor to consider is the type of motor oil you use. There are different types of motor oil for different types of engines. Be sure to consult your owner’s manual or a professional mechanic to determine which type of motor oil is right for your car.

Brake Fluid

Brake fluid is another important fluid in your car because it helps stop your car when you press down on the brake pedal. Brake fluid is a hydraulic fluid that transmits the force from your brake pedal to the brakes themselves. Like motor oil, brake fluid can become less effective over time due to moisture build-up and contamination. That’s why it’s important to have your brake fluid checked regularly by a professional mechanic and flushed and replaced as necessary.

Air Filters

Your car has two air filters: one for the engine and one for the cabin. The filter for the engine is located in front of where the air enters the engine bay. This filter prevents debris and dirt from getting into the engine where it could cause damage. The cabin air filter is located behind the glove box or under the dashboard where it filters out pollen, dust, and other airborne contaminants before they can enter the cabin of your car through the vents. It’s important to check both filters regularly and replace them as necessary according to your manufacturer’s recommendations. A clogged air filter can restrict airflow to your engine and reduce its efficiency, while a dirty cabin air filter can negatively impact air quality inside your vehicle.

We hope this blog post was helpful in giving you a better understanding of some of the most important fluids and filters in your car! Remember to change your motor oil regularly, flush and replace your brake fluid as necessary, and check both air filters (engine & cabin) regularly so that they can be replaced as needed.
